Forming technologies for chassis and BIW

Gonvauto Asturias, the Gonvarri Precision Tubes plant located in Asturias (Spain), is working on the project ‘Research in forming technologies through new AHSS steels for the next generation of automotive tubular chassis and BIW components for the transition to electric vehicles (IMAT-EV)’ in collaboration with Gestamp Navarra and ArcelorMittal Innovation, Research and Investment.

The project seeks to develop high-strength materials to increase the mechanical performance of chassis and BIW components for electric vehicles without increasing their weight. This involves the study and conceptualisation of a new generation of tubular structures with improvements in terms of safety, weight, comfort, performance and functionality.

IMAT-EV is co-financed by CDTI and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for execution between August 2022 and June 2024. In the case of Gonvauto Asturias, the investment is 410,044.00 € and the EU support is 109,369.84 €.
